Back Pain

"How to Put an End to Back Pain & Stiffness

Without Pain Medicine & Without Surgery & Without Multiple Trips to Your Doctor!"

BACK PAIN GUIDE COVER.png

If you have low back pain or stiffness, you may thing it's nothing and it will likely go away on its own. Maybe you brush it off as you just "slept funny", or that it is just a "muscle spasm" or ache that is expected at your age. There is no obvious reason why it happened, or maybe you remember lifting something wrong, falling or even being in an accident - but it does not seem to be getting better.

If this is happening to you, you are not alone. We hear these same stories all of the time. As a matter of fact, lower back pain and "sciatica" are the MOST COMMON symptoms we see in our physical therapy clinic in Mooresville. And when it comes to patients suffering with back pain, they all want to know..

"Why is This Happening to Me?"...

or,

"Why Does My Back Still Hurt After 6 Months (or Longer)?"

The majority of people think when they get back pain, it will go away on its own. That one morning, when they wake up, it will be gone like "magic". It will be like the back pain never happened. But then...there you are 6 months later and you are still suffering with low back pain and by then it may even be worse than when it started.

Does That Sound Like You?

Another common story our physical therapists hear ALL THE TIME is when patients go to their doctor and they are told to "try this pain medicine and muscle relaxer" and "see how it goes".

This is typically bad advice and 6 weeks later, the patient will go back to the doctor because their back pain has not gotten any better. Even worse, they will often be given an even stronger pain medicine, and told to keep resting. This is ridiculous and explains exactly why the majority of people aged 50 and older suffer from chronic low back pain.

Has This Happened to You?

Why does back pain last longer than it should? It's easy to get confused when you are told different things, from a lot of different people. You can find many people, who are happy to give you advice, but not all of it is credible.

You might think your low back pain was caused by something you did, like sleeping awkwardly or lifting. But honestly it was caused by many years of poor posture and poor body mechanics that caused your glute (butt) muscles and low back muscles to get weak and the final straw was lifting incorrectly or sleeping funny.

Back pain can be extremely confusing and many people end up accepting it as a part of thieir life - as if it is a "normal thing" and just "the way it's going to be".

Do You Feel That Way Too?

If You Are Currently Experiencing Low Back Pain, Here Are 7 More Reasons Why It Could Be Lasting Longer Than It Should:

  1.  You assumed it would probably go away on it's own - but it hasn't

  2.  You went to your doctor and were told to take pain meds and rest - but as soon as you stopped taking the meds, the back pain came back or got worse

  3.  A friend or family member told you everyone gets low back pain and you just accept it

  4.  You've had treatments from other healthcare professionals, maybe a physical therapist or a   chiropractor, and nothing they said or did helped your back pain

  5.  You researched exercises online, watched youtube videos and they did nothing or made your back pain a lot worse.

  6.  You thought resting it longer was a good idea, but it just made it more stiff and tight

  7.  You had a few massages, with the hope it would fix your pain, but it did not fix anything long-term

"What Can I Do To Ease My Back Pain Fast?"...

Well, here's 4 things you can do:

  1. Firstly, you need to make a decision to get help. Many people put off getting help for so long, thinking the Back pain might "just go away in time", but 6 months later they are still putting up with it, and nothing has changed...or it has gotten worse.

  2. Second, do the RIGHT exercises - one the most beneficial things to help ease your Back pain is to do the right combination of exercises - the right exercises given to you by a Physical Therapist will help in reducing pain, and allow you to move more freely again fast - and make sure the problems do not come back anytime soon (or irritate your back even more like some exercises can).

  3. Avoid sitting and long periods of rest - have you tried getting up from the sofa after resting for awhile, but you have a hard time because your back feels more painful and tight? That is because one of the worst things that adds to Back pain is rest, and sit for long periods of time. Resting too much, and awkward sitting positions makes your back stiff and tight. It would help a lot if you were given the correct strengthening exercises to improve posture, along with hands-on treatment, to get you back to being active and healthy as fast as possible.

  4. Get Real, hands-on Physical Therapy - Physical Therapy is proven to help people who suffer from Back pain. In fact, at Sterner Physical Therapy, it is one of the most common conditions we see. If your back pain is affecting you ability to work and to stay active, if it threatens your independence or makes it really hard to spend quality of time with your friends and family - Physical Therapy can help get you back to living the life you deserve as fast as possible.
